WEALTH IS A MATTER OF CHOICE

The ability to will wealth into existence out of nothing is a topic of fascination for today’s
generations, just as it fascinated those in search of the philosophers; stone in the middle ages.
The truth is a little more nuanced.
Renowned entrepreneur Steve Down writes in The Miracle of Wealth that wealth
is not earned, but is rather created. This implies that by a deliberate decision to pursue wealth,
anyone can acquire financial freedom and financial fitness. Understanding the principles
involved is the trick.
Entrepreneurial mavericks and great inventors share a similar disdain for convention and
the norm. It appears that to be great, one has to challenge the circumstances they find themselves
in at every point so that without a continuous gradation to higher levels of competence, the
meaning of life is lost.
According to the late Irish playwright, George Bernard Shaw wrote, “People are always
blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who
get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if
they can’t find them, make them.”
This concept of mind over matter, where we are taught that a person can shape their
circumstance through exercising ‘correct’ principles of thought, has been repeated ad nauseam
that an intrinsic truth was lost.
In Financially Fit for Life, a financial fitness training publication, Steve Down says, “I
am convinced that most people choose not to improve their financial state regardless of how
miserable they are in life.” If you would like to improve your financial circumstances, learn the
principles of wealth creation in the practical seven steps taught here.
The inescapable truth is that we are in life exactly where we have chosen to be, the
choices we made or didn’t make in the past, right brought us to where we are at this moment.
This applies to all situations, be it financial, marital, academic, or even political choices.
It is important that we understand that we are not helpless victims of the tyranny of fate. The
choices we make at every point in our life, make or break the success we could have been or
failure we might have been.

The onus for anyone is therefore to make the decision to take responsibility for their
situation.
You are not a victim of any circumstance, no matter how you look at it. Recognizing the
power inherent in every individual to determine personal fate, allows us to face our challenges
and trials with a renewed resolution.
We could choose to keep better company, dissociate from debilitating habits and
entertainment, be faithful spouses, or become diligent students. The choice is always ours no
matter the prevailing circumstance.
Whatever our choices are, these are the places that we feel most comfortable in, and,
therefore if we are in destitute conditions, some aspects of destitution appealed to us and brought
us to that point.
How we value ourselves and how we perform in life is determined by our self-image and
the comfort zone that matches our picture of expectations. The higher and more positive our
financial self-image, the higher and more productive comfort zones we choose to associate with.
